Navy’s Online Academic Skills Course Can Boost Your Rating

The Navy's Online Academic Skills Course (OASC) is now a solely Web-based program. The self-paced academic skills improvement program measures your reading level, vocabulary, and math ability. It then designs customized individual lessons to increase your proficiency in these areas. This can boost your ASVAB scores, your rating and ultimately your Naval career.

You start by taking a pre-test to identify areas you need to improve. Complete a module and a post-test shows how much you’ve improved. You can choose the length and depth of the courses based on your needs and timetable. The OASC not only helps boost your ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) score, but it can also prepare you for college placement exams.

You can access the OASC 24/7 from any computer with an Internet connection. It’s also available to Department of Defense family members and government civilians at no charge. Lessons are supported by interactive drag-and-drop matching and multiple choice or dynamic flash cards. Quizzes and practice problem sets help gauge your progress.

If you want to retake the ASVAB, you’ll need to qualify for it by taking the OASC. It demonstrates that you’ve improved your educational and academic skills since you initially took the test.

The OASC is currently available via the NKO Learning Tab and on the Navy College Website under the academic skills link. Navigation to OASC is also available at NelNetSolutions.

One final word: If you want to change your rating, consult your Command Career Counselor to see how the OASC can help advance your career. Your counselor can review and track your progress and verify completion of the program.
