Broadcast Maintenance Engineer

CBS 2 / WLNY-TV / CBSN NEW YORK is seeking a Broadcast Maintenance Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Experience troubleshooting electronic equipment to a component (hardware/software) level, and working with equipment manufacturers to accurate problems.

• Order all necessary required parts for repair of all equipment and communicate optimally with vendors, station management, and staff.

• Fix and quickly resolve technical problems within a fast-paced on-air environment. Collaborate with system users, technicians, engineers, and other Television Broadcast Maintenance personnel to install, configure, and debug broadcast applications and systems.

• Lead server administration, LAN & VLAN configuration, and installation of updates.

• Installation, testing, and implementation of projects, terminating HD SDI cables, RF cables, network data, and fiber optic cables.

• Work with vendors and manufacturers to research and address support issues.

• The ability to work independently at times and collaboratively with other engineering team members is needed.

• Ability to work in a team setting.

• Must be willing to join the IBEW union.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's or equivalent experience, IT certification, or technical school, desirable. Network certifications are a plus.

• 5-10 years of experience as a television broadcast engineer, or equivalent.

• Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and in emergencies, as we are a 24/7 news operation.

• Individuals must have an exceptional knowledge of common HD television station equipment.

• Video routing systems, Installation, testing, and implementation of projects, terminating HD SDI cables, RF cables, network data, and fiber optic cables.

• Ability to read and build AV signal flow diagrams, document project design work, and see projections through to completion.

• Knowledge of coordinated receiver decoders IRDs, core devices, edge devices, timing of video and audio systems, and audio and video media file formats is a necessity.

• Knowledge of Evertz frame control via VistaLink or Magnum, Grass Valley Densite frame control, ITX, Harmonic encoders, Nielsen (NACAT), EEG VANC equipment, Linear Acoustics, EAS systems, Grass Valley Stratus/K2 servers.

• Working knowledge of AVID, iNews, communications equipment (Bosch/RTS), robotic camera pedestals, Sony studio cameras, and Sony digital production switchers. Core HD/IP, SMPTE 2110 router knowledge is a plus.

• Familiarity with IP interface networking, active directory, software deployment utilities such as BigFix or SCCM, and basic Linux/Unix commands.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Hiring Salary Range: $50,888.24 - 122,400.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
