    ABOUT KUOW

    KUOW Puget Sound Public Radio is Seattle's NPR news station. We are an independent, nonprofit news organization producing award-winning journalism, podcasts, and events in service to the 3.9 million people in our coverage area. As a self-sustaining service of the University of Washington, our mission is to create and serve a more informed public.

If so, then KUOW has an exciting opportunity for a Business Support Account Manager . In this role you will engage in outreach to prospective businesses and organizations, cultivate and build relationships with sponsors, and work alongside a team of seasoned media professionals. This is a consultative sales position that allows you to advance KUOW's unique value proposition of sponsoring public radio.

    BASIC FUNCTION

    The Account Manager is a media sales representative responsible for securing contributions from businesses and organizations that are interested in messaging to the NPR/KUOW audience in the Puget Sound Area. This position is a media sales role that focuses on a consultative approach for selling sponsorships across all KUOW's platforms to reach individual and department goals. Business Support is responsible for around 18% of all KUOW's operating budget.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    Client Engagement and Relationship Management (40%)

    • Manages sales and service of sponsors and/or their advertising/public relations agencies to achieve business support revenue goals. Cultivates and nurtures positive relationships with clients and provides excellent customer service.
    • Consults with clients to develop broadcast and digital proposals for business support/sponsorship. Discovers and interprets prospects' business objectives, marketing and public relations goals, mission, values, and community relations activities. Analyzes and interprets qualitative and quantitative audience and market research to present an appropriate match with station listeners.
    • Meets with clients both in-person and through video conferencing to successfully conduct sales activities.

    Business Development (40%)

    • Prospects, identifies, researches and contacts potential clients or their agency that are a good match with the KUOW/NPR audience to offer sponsorship opportunities.
    • Actively promotes business support for the station.
    • Negotiates and presents sponsorship packages to include pricing, terms and copy that conforms to FCC and station-imposed policies. Prepares contracts and works with clients to write compliant copy. Develops strong understanding of FCC guidelines and can articulate them to the client.

    Financial and Administrative (20%)

    • Maintains up-to-date account records including current client contact information, outreach, correspondence, proposals, and closed business in Salesforce.
    • Reviews account receivables report each month and works with finance team to help secure any past due accounts.
    • Collaborates with other departments in support of KUOW's mission and revenue goals. Participates in weekly team meetings as well as 1:1 meeting with the Director of Business Support to review progress to ensure annual individual and team goals are met.
    • Attends station events as needed
    • Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Business Support

    Requirements include:

    • Bachelor's degree and two years professional work experience in business development, sales, fundraising, broadcasting or equivalent combination of education/experience
    • Ability to embrace and articulate KUOW's mission to create and serve a more informed public.
    • Strong business acumen, understanding of marketing communications, and sales promotion strategy.
    • Experience with identifying and overcoming sales objections and able to close sales.
    • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients and fellow team members.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite tools
    • Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data to benefit the sales process.
    • Ability to travel locally efficiently and effectively to meet with clients off-site as needed.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
