    Summary:

    The primary role of the Clinical Editor is to develop, review, edit, update, and maintain multi-media nursing, allied health and patient related content, validate clinical accuracy, and relevance of assigned point of care and education content. The Clinical Editor develops, partners with, reviews, and edits all content including content received from authors and Subject Matter Experts. The Clinical Editor performs clinical review of content delivered through Care Planning, Clinical eLearning, Continuing Education, Patient Education, and/or Skills content. The Clinical Editor engages with cross functional teams, serves as a primary or secondary lead on content development projects, and works collaboratively across the Nursing, Allied Health, and Patient Education teams to ensure alignment, standardization, and reflects the most current and highest quality evidence integration into content.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Review multimedia to ensure integration of highest quality evidence and accuracy of the clinical content. Critically review content produced by other clinical editors, external writers, and subject matter experts for medical and clinical accuracy and appropriateness, and to ensure clarity, accuracy, standardization, and consistency throughout Nursing, Allied Health, and Patient education multi-media content.

    Update and review assigned content based on scheduled and triggered review cycles.

    Serve as an internal subject matter expert on cross functional teams, content development projects, and assigned collaborative committees or councils. May represent content with other teams including sales, marketing, product, or IT development.

    Serve as an external subject matter expert partnering with the Customer Success and Service team to ensure we provide timely and accurate clinical responses to customers and end users.

    Assign, apply, and/or maintain clinical metadata on assigned multimedia content. Partner with coding experts to ensure correct application of clinical coding. Review clinical metadata to confirm adherence to established editorial policies and industry standard ontologies/clinical terminology, and providing final clinical review of content.

    Participate in national professional practice organizations and/or governmental bodies for Nursing, Allied Health, Practice, and Patient Education in order to establish Elsevier as a credible leader in the healthcare patient education arena. Occasional travel may be required for this purpose.

    Partner with other internal and external subject matter experts to ensure content meets requirements for inter-professional accreditation as well as meeting necessary health care quality, safety, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.

    Other business duties or tasks as assigned by the Nursing, Allied Health, and Patient Education leaders.

    Qualifications:

    Licensed Independent Provider, (eg.,APRN) Physician Assistant, or Registered Nurse, or other licensed, certified, or registered allied healthcare professional with significant experience in the day-to-day care of patients across the continuum of care required.

    Minimum requirements:

    Registered Nurses

    Current unencumbered license as a registered nurse required

    Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university; Master's degree or enrolled in an accredited and related Master's program strongly preferred

    Certification in area of specialty preferred

    Recent clinical experience (within 2 years) in area of clinical specialty preferred

    Allied Health Care Professionals

    Minimum of a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree or enrolled in an accredited and related Master's program strongly preferred.

    Current unencumbered license, certification, or registration in professional clinical practice specialty

    Recent clinical expertise (within 2 years) in area of clinical specialty preferred - Rehab and Post Acute Care, Behavioral and Mental Health and/or Patient Education.

    Experience in authoring/writing multimedia nursing, allied health or patient education, healthcare related quality, practice, regulatory requirements and developing relevant clinical, patient, and continuing education strongly preferred.

    Experience in authoring/writing interprofessional care plans and nursing/allied health practice, procedure, and policies strongly preferred.

    Excellent collaboration skills and experience working on and leading cross-functional teams

    Strong interpersonal communication skills to work collaboratively to ensure editorial content and projects are completed successfully.

    Must work effectively with internal and external authors, professional practice organizations, and other subject matter experts to meet timelines and deliverables, identify and obtain necessary licensing for 3rd party content, assessment tools, and conduct content gap analysis and standardization across content types.

    Small project management skills consistent with establishing timelines, milestones, and leading small teams to achieve established deliverables on time

    Demonstrates ability to perform an evidence methodology to access the highest quality evidences, analyze, synthesize, and apply to content authoring, review, and updating.

    Experience in informatics or working knowledge of electronic health care documentation and delivery systems preferred

    Must have a demonstrated understanding of issues impacting healthcare system, health information technology and patient education, and a working knowledge of national and other standards and guidelines affecting the delivery of patient education content.

    Demonstrates working knowledge of learner-centered or adult learning principles, health literacy, and/or Plain Language Principles is necessary for all education and training content development.

    Demonstrated problem-solving ability, sense of urgency; and ability to prioritize tasks, to work simultaneously on multiple projects, and to ensure completion of editorial team projects according to tight timelines.

    Excellent command of the English language in both spoken and written forms. Strong writing skills with a clear concise style and excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling; ability to work with templates using an electronic content management system.

    High computer skill competency. Proficiency in a Microsoft Windows environment (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, at a minimum). Understanding of computer databases and standardized ontologies.
