  • Position Objective: Communications and Digital Specialist with professional experience in communications, program management, content creation, social media, video and photographic production, visual and graphic design, and digital diplomacy. S/he will act as a digital communications specialist, implementing the institute-wide public affairs strategy and the Foreign Service Institute's digital engagement objectives. The public affairs team seeks to improve our engagement with customers and stakeholders and create partnerships that will ultimately improve the foreign affairs training FSI delivers. Internally, the specialist implements digital and content engagement strategies to communicate with staff, students, and Department stakeholders to promote awareness of institutional developments and accomplishments. Externally, the specialist creates and amplifies content to highlight important developments at FSI and attract recognition, support and partnerships that will elevate our training. Duties and Responsibilities + Create communication products, materials and digital content that tells FSI's story and advances organizational coherence and reach, including but not limited to event announcements and invitations, photos, images, infographics, short videos, website content and social media posts. + Provide strategic and creative vision for large social media campaigns and marketing initiatives to achieve broader FSI and Department of State policy objectives by using social media and online platforms, including but not limited to Twitter, LinkedIn, and websites. + Develop content including but not limited to graphics, infographics, visual designs, logos, graphic templates, motion graphics, or other multimedia products for internal and external communications and outreach products that convey the Department, Institute, and program office's messaging, while collaborating with internal partners to obtain the necessary information to create content. + Manage and develop day-to-day content on all social media platforms, including monitoring comments and acting as a community manager. + Develop and coordinate short- and long-term planning, drafting, editing, approving and publication of strategic web content for FSI's public-facing webpages. Support agency requirements related to web communication policy matters, content management protocols and best practices, domain administration, accessibility, technical standards, and governance. + Champion adoption of FSI's branding and style guidelines with colleagues throughout the Institute and work with relevant stakeholders to develop new visual governance guidelines, processes, and resources. + Conduct channel and site audits and reviews, analyze viewer usage analytics, and apply best practices in user-centric design to increase stakeholder interest, knowledge and understanding of FSI's mission and activities, improve experience and grow reach, while also identifying potential problem areas and advising on implementing solutions. · Drive and track consistent, relevant traffic, and leads from our social network presence to our websites. Explore new ways to engage and new social networks to use in order to reach our target audiences + Liaise with a multitude of offices, other bureaus, journalists, policy groups, think tanks, higher education community, and other external partners to track, find, and collaborate with their content related to our channels, and to stay up-to-date on the latest in the international professional development and diplomatic training communities. + Assess, evaluate, and iterate changes to FSI processes, workflows and systems to address evolving communication needs. Participate in public affairs program reviews, evaluation, and strategic planning to ensure quality, relevance, and effectiveness of approaches. Benchmark with industry leaders where appropriate. Support technological innovation and adoption within the Office of Public Affairs as appropriate. + Support other outreach and communication projects, programs, events and VIP visits in support of the broader public affairs team. Basic Qualifications: + Secret Clearance + BA/BS degree in public relations, marketing, communications, graphic design or related field. + 4+ years of professional experience in social media, digital, communications or marketing with related work experience. + Demonstrated experience working in public affairs, communications or marketing on behalf of a large organization (preferably in government) + Ability to create graphic design, photography, basic videography, basic publication design, and layout and editing. + Previous experience managing professional social media accounts and public-facing websites (please provide links to the accounts in your resume or cover letter). + Previous experience capturing photos and video for professional use (please provide portfolio/link to samples). + Ability to apply project management techniques and methods for digital media content management and to plan and execute campaigns and initiatives. + Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced office with experience balancing workload of short and medium-term projects. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at multiple levels within FSI's Office of Public Affairs, across FSI and with multiple partner offices across the Department of State + Knowledge and sufficient skill image manipulation, plain language practices, and 508 accessibility standards for developing effective and compliant products. + Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to thrive in a tight-knit cross-functional team, and ability to interact effectively in multicultural settings. + Excellent writing and copy-editing skills with strict attention to detail. + Demonstrable skill in qualitative and quantitative social media analytics tools and methods to draw conclusions, make findings, and suggest recommendations. Preferred: + · Knowledge and understanding of Department of State and Foreign Service Institute mission, programs, functions, activities, policy, and organizational structure to support effective communications to a variety of audiences + · Experience managing social media platforms with brand and media visibility and implications + · Experience coordinating and motivating cross-functional colleagues + · Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions. + · Experience using Salesforce for Contact Relationship Management. + · Experience using Google Analytics for evaluation and reporting. + · Experience using WordPress, ZoomPro, Wave.video, iMovie, Canva, Easil, Adobe Creative Suite in a professional setting for public programming or content creation.
