Develops communication strategy and plans, facilitates leadership consensus, and secures communications resources. In addition, executes strategic communications plans, campaigns or programs that build the Laboratoryâ€™s scientific reputation, result in national and international recognition, and contribute to the financial success of the Laboratory. The role demonstrates integration with the Laboratory and Directorateâ€™s strategy, and drives business development, operational excellence, and staff engagement, in partnership with leadership or key clients. Communications generates opportunities to further advance the Laboratoryâ€™s research and leadership reputation with targeted stakeholder groups. It plans and directs development of information designed to keep targeted publics informed of Laboratory or Directorate specific programs, accomplishments, or point of view. It collaborates with other communications functions to enable effective development of integrated public relations and communications plans. Those entering this career series may be tasked with more tactical functions including implementation of campaigns, and development of external and internal communications products.
â€¢ Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of experience or advanced degree plus 2 years of experience
â€¢ Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to proofread content for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style.
â€¢ A talent for interviewing others and probing for impactful content that will resonate with our audiences.
â€¢ A knack for understanding audience characteristics and adjusting writing styles for various groups.
â€¢ Ability to apply various style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style and AP Stylebook).
â€¢ Advanced Microsoft Office skills including use of templates, content controls, and styles.
â€¢ Demonstrated ability to manage and complete multiple activities of varying complexities while adhering to strict deadlines.
â€¢ Able to work effectively on multiple simultaneous projects with varying priorities and timelines.
â€¢ Experience with content management systems or knowledge management systems; demonstrated ability learning new technologies and applications.
â€¢ Intense focus on and commitment to detail and accuracy of work.
â€¢ Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner in a highly dynamic, collaborative, and professional environment.
â€¢ Extensive experience creating communications materials/projects, with a focus on content and quality.
