We are hiring a Creative Director, Industrial Product Design to join our Marketing team!
As our Creative Director, Industrial Product Design, you will drive the overall industrial design vision and manage industrial design activities from inception through completion for our product brands such as Endless PoolsÂ®, Hot SpringÂ® Spas, CalderaÂ® Spas, Freeflow SpasÂ®, and Fantasy SpasÂ®. You will also lead an internal design team and manage external design consulting services. This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing, North America, and works directly with our product development teams to formulate industrial design strategies which ensure that all our products and brands are always leading edge in visual and functional design.

Are you a visionary ? As the primary contact for all design-related activities, you will play a key role in establishing and evangelizing our design vision, principles and guidelines for new and existing Watkins Wellness products, with a clear viewpoint on how to enhance comfort and relaxation of the end user by considering psychological, physiological and sociological factors, as well as form, function, ergonomics, materials, color, tactile, and finish.

Are you a team player ? You will provide creative design leadership while working with internal teams such as, Engineering/Research and Development (R&D), Marketing, and Product Development, along with consumers, retail partners, and external suppliers to formulate design strategies. You will also manage contracts and relationships with strategic outside partners and maintain an established pool of approved suppliers and contractors of industrial design services.
Can you design for manufacturability ? To be successful in this role, it is imperative that you confer and partner with management, engineering, manufacturing operations, and marketing teams, and leverage your knowledge and experience of product manufacturing processes, to determine design feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand and expectations for new and existing products.
Do you have strong project management skills ? You will lead and track the execution of design deliverables throughout all phases of development, from concept to commercialization, to preserve design vision and intent. You'll also direct activities related to the industrial design functions, including planning and managing throughput and the performance of the design team, while ensuring that all design related quality, financial, and business objectives are attained.
Do you have hands-on design skills ? As our leader of product design, your primary role will be to lead the function, while also providing hands-on design support and expertise when needed (~15%).
Are you consumer-centric ? You will partner with internal and external groups to establish and validate processes to research the retail effects of multiple product styles on consumer brand impressions.
Do you stay ahead of the market ? You will establish processes to investigate and report on longer-term product and design trends which will impact and influence our product strategies and categories. We will also look to you to keep informed of the competition and know where they are going, and apply, where applicable, those insights into the direction of our products.
Are you a problem-solver ? You will identify design feature issues and provide leadership and guidance to resolve those by developing design solutions, re-allocating resources or modifying feature scope.
Are you an effective communicator ? You will at times need to present a compelling design vision and strategy to multiple stakeholders to gain buy in and agreement for future designs. You will also need to prepare and communicate information through various formats such as proposals, business plans, statements-of-work, design specifications, operating budgets and other reports and presentations as needed.
WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design or related field required, Advanced degree (M.S/MBA) is preferred; the equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively complex design experience with 5 years of management experience preferably in related industries such as consumer products, lifestyle brands, luxury appliances, or recreational equipment.
Experience in designing for manufacturing processes is highly preferred. Experience in exploring and applying new technologies to new and/or existing products is a plus.
Proficiency using Engineering CAD 2D, 3D, Solid Modeling computer systems, MS Office applications, and Project Management software.
Must be organized and detail oriented with a strong, clear vision of the design processes with the confidence to assert priorities when necessary.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with all levels within and the organization; ability to present industrial design concepts at all stages and communicate challenges in a clear and concise manner.
Must be able to travel up to 5% of the time (when safe to do so).
