    Description of Work Unit

    Communications

    The Communications Department leads strategic communications and marketing efforts to support the mission of the CSU Health Network. Essential duties include public health and safety communications, health education and prevention campaigns, internal and executive communication efforts, new student and family communications and outreach, service line marketing, digital media (website, social media, etc.), branding, graphic design, events, media relations, and more. The team supports and collaborates with all Health Network departments to meet internal and public communications needs. In addition, the team regularly partners with other units and communicators across the university to elevate the health and well-being of the university community. We strive to center inclusive communication and health equity principles in all of our work. The Communication Department operates under normal business hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, year-round, with occasional evening and weekend work required for events, programs and time-sensitive needs.

    Position Summary

    The Graphic Designer, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Communications, is responsible for the creation of the department's graphic design and branding efforts. Projects include print (posters, brochures, handouts, mailers, etc.) and digital graphics (digital sign graphics, web and social media graphics, presentations, etc.).

    This position collaborates with staff across the organization, including the Health Education and Prevention Services department, to create engaging and inclusive campaigns that support and enhance the mission, vision, and values of the department. Audiences range from current students, to prospective and new students, internal staff, and the University at large.

    Candidates should be adaptable in a fast-paced work environment, work with attention to detail, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage projects independently and also work effectively as part of a team.

    The Graphic Designer reports directly to the CSU Health Network, Associate Director of Communications.

    Required Job Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in Graphic Design, Art, Communications, Journalism & Media Communication, Multimedia, or a related field, with a minimum of one year of professional experience;OR

    • Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in Graphic Design, Art, Communications, Journalism & Media Communication, Multimedia, or a related field by May 2024, with a minimum of two years of student/internship experience;OR

    • Bachelor of Science/Arts degree in unrelated field, with a minimum of three years of experience in the Design or Communications field

    Experience

    • Demonstrated experience and expertise in graphic design (both digital and print), which includes managing projects from start to finish (concept development, design, routing, pre-press, print coordination, delivery logistics, installation, implementation, etc.)

    • Demonstrated project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple projects at one time, with attention to detail and deadlines

    • Advanced knowledge and use of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop) as demonstrated by a portfolio
