    We are a team of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, and dreamers working at the nexus of science and communication inside NASA.

    KBR is seeking a driven and creative individual to produce science stories related to NASA's sun observing spacecraft onsite at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).

    The Heliophysics Producer will support NASA's Heliophysics science division and the timing couldn't be more exciting. The sun is near the peak of its 11-year solar cycle and NASA is watching with several spacecraft giving us new insight into the mechanisms of our star. One spacecraft continues to break speed and distance records making the closest approach to the sun's surface of any human-made object. And, NASA has more solar exploration missions in planning. We are looking for creative science storytellers who know how to inform, excite, and inspire viewers.

    This producer will work directly with scientists, engineers, animators, and other producers to create cutting-edge productions that explain the work of NASA to the science community, media, and general public. The work created will be seen and used by a wide range of audiences: broadcast media, museums, science centers, educators, lawmakers, NASA's popular social media streams and international outlets.

    The work will be completed independently as well as collaboratively with other Heliophysics media team members to accomplish NASA's Heliophysics Division media and outreach goals. The Heliophysics Producer will be responsible for all aspects of a production from development to delivery. This may include production pitching, planning, budget management, archiving video content, and producing pre-packaged and live programming for broadcast, web streaming and social media content in support of NASA's mission.

    Responsibilities:

    • Consult and coordinate with customers, scientists, team members and other creators for the purpose of developing productions, animations, visualizations, script writing, graphics, and storyboards

    • Plan and direct productions including treatment ideas, script writing, pre-production coordination, image capture, editing and preparing it for distribution

    • Work with the animation team to develop supporting animation and graphic elements if needed, within budget and deadline constraints

    • Operate cameras, audio recording devices and lighting instruments as needed to capture content for production

    • Create webpage on the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio (SVS) website and post produced media content

    • Archive project file, raw elements, and the finished production to our shared Media Asset Management (MAM) system using the SVS ID # as cross reference metadata

    • Support live broadcast productions in studio or remote locations, as well as audio Podcasts and ISDN interviews, and presentations

    • Resolves routine problems without assistance; technical guidance is available

    • Task and assignment oriented

    • Support all aspects of NASA GSFC-TV projects systems, procedures, and protocols

    • Occasionally assist the Astrophysics, Hubble and Webb Telescope production teams when needed

    • Other duties as assigned

    Required Education, Experience, & Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public affairs, or television or related area of study

    • 3 + years of experience in production or related field

    • Good organization and project management skills with the ability to work under deadline pressures and meet scheduled completion dates.

    • Knowledge and experience with a wide range of equipment used for shooting, editing and graphics.

    • Good video editing ability and visual storytelling

    • Previous production experience within a science environment along with a proven passion for science storytelling

    • Capable of writing scripts for screen narration, writing text contributions to websites, including image and videos captions

    • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products like Premier, Photoshop and After Effects (We're an Adobe shop)

    • Responsible for media asset management and data backup

    • Familiar with contemporary journalism practices and changing trends in both traditional and emerging news formats and platforms

    • Some experience with live broadcast production that may include any of the following: live broadcast camera operation, audio operation, teleprompter, video switcher operation or other aspect of live video production.

    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, assignments, deadlines, and work environments

    • Foster positive relations with internal/external customers

    • Ability to work independently

    This position has the potential for occasional travel
