    Job Summary:

    Supports and assists Program Director in all aspects of radio station's on air experience including: talent, content, tone, programming, production, sound & theme, and online presence.

    Responsibilities

    • Partners with Program Director to determine and maintain creative vision for station(s) to enhance station image and visibility within the community.

    • Partners with Programming, Promotions and Sales in support of local and corporate business goals to increase market share, audience, ratings, advertiser satisfaction, and revenue while aligning programming with client, station, and audience; creates talent and station marketing, promotion, and image campaigns.

    • Protects station license and monitors programming activities in conformance with FCC rules and regulations, iHeartMedia policy and applicable federal, state and local laws.

    • Assists in scheduling staff for on-air shifts, remotes, and appearances.

    • Assists in identifying, recruiting, and coaching on-air talent, producers, mixers, etc.

    • Assists in writing and producing station imaging

    • Schedules daily music log for one or more stations and ensures logs are loaded properly into the automation system.

    • May take part record label calls or meetings as well as internal music meetings with programming staff.

    • Check social media to ensure music remains consistent with station's brand and may collaborate with production to provide musical direction and options that meet editorial scope.

    • Hosts an approved and previously agreed upon on-air shift.

    • Prepares for an on-air shift with use of creativity, imagination and exercise of independent professional judgment in writing, producing, interviewing, taping or broadcasting of on-air material.

    • Maintains a website personality blog page. Prepares written content, visual images, audio material and video footage for websites, blogs, or other social media platforms.

    • Establishes relationship with listeners by providing entertainment and/or information of interest consistent with format, genre, and targeted demographic audience.

    • Assists with voice over and production of paid and non-paid spots required to run on the station

    • Adheres to all guidelines, policies and procedures of the station, iHeartMedia, the FCC and all other federal, state and local laws, including policies and procedures regarding indecency and obscenity.

    • Participates in regular listening/air check sessions for critique with the Program Director or SVPP.

    • Makes regular approved appearances at paid, and non-paid, station events.

    • May work flexible hours and weekends and be on call for possible disasters, breaking news, or acts of nature.

    • Keeps up-to-date with relevant material appropriate for the station.

    • Participates in required station Programming, Promotions, and Sales staff meetings and events.

    • Checks that studio equipment is functioning properly and notifies Engineering of technical malfunctions affecting quality of the broadcast.

    • Handles emergency inserts (e.g. news updates and breaking stories, emergencies, alert system tests, etc.); is on call for possible disasters, breaking news, or acts of nature.

    Qualifications

    Competencies/Skills

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

    • Knowledge of Diary data analysis and ability to use tools to gather and analyze ratings data.

    • Familiarity with products including GSelector and NexGen as well as, Vox Pro, Adobe Audition and Wheatstone

    • Extensive knowledge of FCC broadcast rules and regulations; knowledge of federal, state and local contesting rules and regulations

    • Demonstrated ability to be engaging, on the air and adaptable to various formats; is upbeat, informative and entertaining, and can relate to station's audience.

    • Ability to deliver unique content that attracts the target demo, builds ratings and grows terrestrial and digital audience.

    • Socially informed and perceptive; up-to-date and in tune daily with the local and national trends and/or specialized knowledge of topics/events related to on-air discussions.

    • Knowledge of music, pop culture and current events and how they relate to the station's target demo.

    • Ability to develop digital and social strategies that are as engaging as on-air tactics and execution in order to drive ratings, site traffic and grow followers

    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

    • Ability to think both tactically and strategically

    • Superior verbal and written communication skills; excellent grammar; can adjust communications style based on audience needs.

    • Able to adapt to changes in schedules and maintain composure when faced with difficult situations and personalities in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines.

    • Excellent team leadership and delegation skills, including motivation of staff; can set goals & expectations, provide honest feedback and manage performance

    • Strong interpersonal skills

    • Ability to create, implement, and manage the sound, image, music, brand, and standards of the station(s) through all distribution channels to reach and exceed goals for ratings, revenue, and profitability

    • Ability to successfully coach, direct, develop, appraise and motivate on-air talent to maximize their performance

    • Ability to work closely with all parts of the company's operations, including sales, digital media, management and sister broadcast stations

    • Ability to work closely with the sales team to develop and enhance client relationships and revenue

    • Ability to work closely with marketing team to develop contests, promotions and big events to raise brand profile

    • High degree of planning and organizing skills; can multi-task and meet specific deadlines in a fast-paced environment

    Work Experience

    • Minimum 3 years programming/on-air radio experience

    • Prior experience as a Program Director or Assistant Program Director preferred

    • Experience with local formats preferred

    • On-Air Demo required

    Education

    • 4-year college degree in Telecommunications or a related field preferred

    Certifications

    • Valid driver's license
