    The Manager, Publications & Communications is a critical member of the Medical Affairs team and will be responsible for supporting the strategy, development and execution of internal and external tactics related to publications (abstracts, presentations, peer reviewed manuscripts), publication planning, advisory boards, and congress activities. This individual will work with key internal and external stakeholders to optimize the publication plans and projects including but not limited to abstracts, congress presentations, and manuscripts as well as working closely with medical directors in the planning and execution of advisory boards, support the interpretation of scientific/clinical data, lead the development of key publications and may be involved with medical writing of some publication projects. The Manager, Publications & Communications will manage engagement activities with external audiences, including vendors as well as with supporting communication with internal cross-functional partners. This role will directly report into the Executive Medical Director of Medical Affairs.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead overall publication planning and strategy in collaboration with internal Medical Affairs Team and external partners.

    • Manages external publication vendors for publication planning and execution.

    • Manages publication repository and tracking of all publications on internal servers.

    • In collaboration with Medical Directors and Global Medical Team, provides scientific/clinical support for the US publication plan as well as support for global publications planning and appropriate alignment.

    • Coordinates and manages all scientific activities related to publications at scientific congresses, including abstract/poster developments within specific timelines, and congress guidelines for submission.

    • Establishes relationships with both internal and external stakeholders while ensuring strong partnerships with key opinion leaders, researchers, and professional societies.

    • Manages projects, develops and/or oversees the development of abstracts, posters, oral presentations, manuscripts and other documents to ensure appropriate data dissemination.

    • Effectively manages simultaneous projects in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

    • Provides frequent and ongoing status updates to management and internal stakeholders, includes weekly and months leadership updates on state of publication plan.

    • Supports publication standardization to ensure consistent and compliant practices across cross-functional teams.

    • Maintains all publications per GPP and ICMJE guidelines, provides compliance training to internal teams and ensures team is executing publication development per compliance guidelines.

    • Demonstrates disease state expertise and knowledge of current medical and/or regulatory issues related to company products.

    • Manages and tracks publication budget and ensures funds and resources are appropriately handled

    • Supports annual global medical affairs planning meetings and provides budget estimates and forecasting for publication activities.

    • Assists with the updating and development of policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs) as well as work practices (WPs).

    • Performs planning and execution of departmental advisory boards.

    • Attends medical conferences and other professional meetings as needed

    Qualifications

    • Master's Degree within the life sciences is required; Advanced degree is preferred (PharmD, PhD, NP, PA, MD).

    • At least 3+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience with a thorough understanding of the publication process and review as well as and medical writing experience is preferred.

    • Relevant therapeutic background/clinical experience is preferred.

    • Must have experience in publication planning.

    • Awareness of compliance issues and guidelines around medical education and publications practices (i.e., Good Publication Practice guidelines - GPP)

    • Ability to interpret and synthesize complex clinical/scientific findings, statistical reports and translates findings into appropriate messages for diverse audiences.

    • Strong customer focus and excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

    • Flexibility of approach, a positive attitude, strong ability to prioritize projects.

    • Ability to manage external vendors and provide clear, concise guidance.

    • Proven ability to effectively manage relationships with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization and with external groups; demonstrates strong customer service orientation.

    • Well-organized and skilled at managing multiple projects to timeline and budget.

    • Self-starter, hard-working and independent.

    • Strong technical writing skills. Track record of peer-reviewed publications is a plus.

    • Good formal presentation skills.

    • Maintains optimism and energy in the face of change and adversity; proven ability to collaborate and problem solve.

    • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time, domestically and internationally, for business and project meetings as required.

    The salary range for this position is $93,000 - $149,000. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary may be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state and depending on the role), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.

    This position is eligible to participate in our annual Short-Term Incentive (STI) program. Specific information about the plan including eligibility rules and target, will be furnished upon hire.
