  • Position Objective: Provide services as a Production Editor in support of the overall functions of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The position will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Input manuscript metadata into EHP Publishing's production tracking system . 2

    • Review copyedited materials to ensure that they follow EHPs style guidelines, and that the authors corrections have been properly implemented. 3

    • Analyze the cause of copyediting errors; report findings to the appropriate staff . 5

    • Review published materials on EHP Publishing's online publishing platform for 508-WCAG compliance, as well as adherence to the style guide.

    • Contribute to updates of the EHP Publishing style guide .

    • Work with the Production team on all aspects of scientific publishing to successfully publish and release new articles to the scientific community. 4

    • Interface with external contractors to monitor timeliness and quality of publication .

    • Complete Production Checks by assessing the production quality of incoming manuscripts; ensure that all relevant files are received and that they follow established guidelines. 1

    • Periodically review standing content (such as instructions, guidelines, and About info) on the EHP Publishing website and update pages as directed.

    • Work products and documents related to completing Production Checks; assess the production quality of incoming manuscripts; ensure that all relevant files are received and that they follow established guidelines; input manuscript metadata into EHP Publishing's production tracking system. - Ad-Hoc

    • Work products and documents related to monitoring timeliness and quality of publication deliverables; report findings; resolve problems with their proofs or manuscripts; coordinate updates to the EHP Publishing website. - Ad-Hoc

    • Work products and documents related to monitoring incoming queries from authors and readers; review all EHP Publishing documentation; report problems and provide recommendations; track ongoing issues and problems; provide reports on the status of problems. - Ad- Hoc

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field and four (4) years of experience.

    • Skilled in MS Office.

    • Prior scientific/scholarly production publishing experience, preferably with scientific journals.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.

    • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.

    • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
