    The Department of Medicine seeks a self-motivated, creative, and enthusiastic writer who will help highlight the research, education efforts, and clinical work in the department. As a member of our communications team, you will develop content for internal and external audiences with an emphasis on scientific research, advancements, and academics for the Department of Medicine at UCLA Health. You will identify and produce newsworthy stories in basic and translational biomedical science that represent the department of medicine's standing among the leaders in the field. You will have the ability to take complex science and build articles for a peer-to-peer audience, as well as simplify complex science in a way that is readable and digestible for the general public.

    In this role, you will work with the Communications Director for the Department of Medicine to coordinate coverage for internal communications, with the UCLA Health Media Relations team, and Marketing with the goal of generating the greatest visibility for UCLA Health. You will also work with graphic artists, photographers, and videographers to determine the best way to tell specific stories.

    Salary Range: $64,800-$137,600 AnnuallyQualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communication, marketing, journalism, or relevant field and/or related work experience, advanced degree preferred

    • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience with reporting and writing on the biomedical sciences

    • Experience (typically 1-3 years) in the following areas: Public Relations or marketing, producing content in a variety of formats including print, web, social media, and advertising

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to write effectively under deadline for a variety of purposes, audiences, and media

    • Experience working in a higher education environment preferred

    • Demonstrated organizational and collaboration skills

    • Demonstrated ability to think and plan across channels and develop effective communication strategies

    • Demonstrated ability to use tools and techniques for developing web-based dissemination of information, including website design, layout, and user experience requirements, and accessibility

    • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality infographics and/or other media to represent data, knowledge, or information

    • Experience writing for different platforms such as websites, blogs, newsletter, social media, etc
