OVERVIEW
The Sr. Content Editor - Acquisitions Editor is responsible for contributing to the growth of the Nursing Education and Practice portfolios through the signing and publication of textbooks and digital learning solutions that exceed customer expectations. As the sponsor for these products, the Sr. Content Editor - Acquisitions Editor is accountable for defining vision and scope and executing on a strategy that ensures editorial quality and profitability for each title, as well as the overall management of their disciplines to ensure sustainable growth.
The Sr. Content Editor - Acquisitions Editor will strategically acquire first editions and new products, secure revisions for existing books and digital resources, and manage content that is appropriate for multiple digital platforms. Vital to this role is collaboration with content creators, marketing, sales, product managers, and content development to ensure successful publications and launch of products.
The Sr. Content Editor - Acquisitions Editor will define new product opportunities, review and modify existing products to maximize profitability and meet customer needs, and work with marketing and sales colleagues to expand sales and marketing opportunities, maintaining an awareness of new trends and developments. In partnership with Product Marketing and Sales, the Sr. Content Editor - Acquisitions Editor will develop product messaging that successfully communicates product value propositions that are grounded on critical market success factors as well as clearly communicate expectations to involved parties, both internal and external. These efforts should result in in organic growth and increased brand awareness and/or extension.
The Sr. Content Editor - Acquisitions Editor is responsible for managing the budget for disciplines in the Nursing Education and Practice portfolios and ensuring that products achieve their required contribution margin to grow the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Market research/customer insight
Annual forecasting for disciplines
Three-year planning of sales and signings for revision and new products
Completion of business plans that detail market trends, customer needs, competitive landscape, and publishing plan related to these elements
Acquiring new products and revisions
Working with authors to complete proposals
Complete publishing proposals for internal review and approval, including sales forecasting, costs (working with Product Managers), and P&Ls
Negotiating contracts with authors
Working with Development & Technology: defining user stories and high-level requirements, developing wireframes to test new product ideas
Research and initiate new ideas by interviewing customers to ensure products are developed based on market needs
In partnership with product development, marketing, and sales, develop customer-facing product messaging and go-to-market strategies
Sponsoring the development process
Working with the Development Editor, Editorial Coordinator, Product Manager, Content Strategist, and others to achieve on-time, in-scope, in-budget products
Ensuring authors are delivering high quality manuscript as scheduled
Review of features and functionality, including user experience and product requirements for digital products
Mitigate issues that come up during the development process related to competitive, market, and customer developments, and/or author/resource issues
Management of the P&L
Monitor sales and costs lines of the P&L ensuring sales and costs are on target and on budget by:
Overseeing sales opportunities, working with sales colleagues to ensure the meeting of budget targets, and ultimately the increasing revenue
Working with marketing and sales colleagues for effective product launches and sales support for all disciplines including creation and execution of Market Development plans at the beginning of the Product Development life cycle
Campus and exhibit travel to ensure a depth and breadth of market/customer needs and new opportunities for product
Monitor profitability of existing products, and build franchises for key brands across multiple disciplines
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: College degree (BA/BS) required or equivalent relevant experience
Experience:
3+ years of experience, including 3 years with editorial acquisitions (preferred)/development/sales/marketing in higher education publishing or related field
Knowledge of trends, developments, and professionals/thought leaders/authors in assigned specialties desired
Experience with oversight of print and online product development
Skilled in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Strong oral and written communication skills
High degree of professionalism
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Strong project management skills
Ability to develop strategic business plans
Ability to determine customer needs and market trends
Ability to create and manage budgets
Familiarity with forecasting processes and P&L oversight
Attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines
Negotiating and problem solving skills
Ability and willingness to travel extensively to meet business goals and objectives
Willingness and ability to work as part of a team
General knowledge of the healthcare and textbook markets; experience in higher ed/nursing education publishing a plus
