    Who will you be working with?

    Our Engineering team is developing a cloud native Precision Dispatch System (PDS) and Movement Planner (MP) products. You will be interacting daily with our product owners and technical experts who have both, deep domain knowledge and are intimately familiar with the PDS/MP product. You will extract information from our vast library of design documents and UX designs to produce new product documentation and training material as part of project deliverables. You will also interact with our customer for documentation feedback and to give live demos as well as engineering and product management to discuss progress.

    How will you make a difference?

    As a member of the engineering team, you will be producing high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our products. You will work collaboratively with developers, quality engineers, and product managers to make our products easier for our customer base to use and administer our applications. By applying your experience in technical writing and artifact organization, you will enable streamlined and as much as possible automated document updates as our product evolves.

    What do we want to know about you?

    • Bachelors degree in English, Communications, journalism or a related field

    • 2+ Years of related tech writing experience, preferably in enterprise industrial software application/rail industry, with a preference of 3+ years of tech writing experience

    • Familiarity with machine operating software and writing instructions for use, with a preference of experience in railway operation or other transportation control system

    • Prior experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences in Microsoft Word or Dev ops (Coordinating images with text, outlining manual content)

    • Knowledge of version control systems and documentation management practices

    • Track record of collaborating harmoniously with various teams and across functional areas

    • Proficiency in using documentation tools and software such as Madcap Flare to organize and manage artifacts to generate documentation in various target formats (manuals/online help/training documentation)

    • Experience in writing and creating operational steps from?engineering documentation, photos and videos

    • Experience in efficiently updating existing documentation to reflect changes in processes, systems or technologies ensuring accuracy and relevance

    • Excellent communication skills

    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently with little supervision

    • Prior Railroad experience

    • Strong time management and organizational skills

    • Ideally, prior involvement in the creation of company standards for tech publication manuals of all types

    What will your typical day look like?

    • Establish or revisit documentation priorities with product owners and engineering management

    • Work through available development documentation and UX designs

    • Engage in discussions with Product Owners and technical experts

    • Create documentation artifacts and organize them in artifact management tools (Text fragments, Tables, Screenshots, Diagrams, ...)

    • Create and refine document templates to enable document generation

    • Generate documentation for review and organize sessions with various stakeholders (engineering experts, management, customer representatives)

    • Consider / Propose / Discuss automation of artifact extraction from live sources where possible and useful

    • Formalize process or tooling improvement proposals as appropriate

    • Report out documentation project status or any impediments you encounter

    What about the physical demands of the job?

    • Employee will be preforming work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

    • Employee will spend a lot of time looking at a computer monitor.

    • Employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

    • Employee able to travel if needed less than 10%

    • Employee able to use a computer for programming and interacting with his team.

    • Employee will be repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

    • Employee will be communicating with others to exchange information.

    You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
