The VP, Physical Production supervises the physical aspects of the making of Sony Pictures motion pictures, manages the costs and quality of the films and maximizes efficiencies across all productions. This includes overseeing preproduction, productions, hiring employees with the creatives, budgeting shows, scheduling films, and monitoring the films as they shoot.Responsibilities
Attend technical scouts and final production meetings to confirm that the final stages of pre-production are on course for a successful shoot, and supervise reshoots for maximum production value while minimizing the impact to the post schedule.
Maintain constant contact with domestic and foreign film commissions regarding worldwide film incentives to maximize production value through soft dollars without compromising the film's creative integrity
Work closely with the creative, business affairs, labor relations and finance executives to develop a production plan that delivers the best possible product at the best possible price.
Hires the Line Producer and production manager and then works with them in hiring the entire crew, which includes the negotiating of crew deals, setting rates.
Works with filmmakers and Screen Gems creatives on the concepts of how the feature will be done, including tech scout locations, attending production meeting and working with production on how the film can be produced as envisioned, whilst staying within budget.
Continually tracking the feature, talking to production every day to ensure shots on target and within budget. Visits locations and set to see progress and liason with creative executives keeping them up to date on everything.
Works with post-production to ensure that any added VFX and time is within budget.
Ensure that all of our production policies and procedures are carried out in the course of production to avoid grievances, lawsuits or potential copyright piracy.
Exert leadership role in the Green Environmental Sustainability Project helping to create more sustainable practices throughout production and our facilities.
Help negotiate studio facility agreements between SPE's Motion Picture production division and facilities around the world.
Budgeting of films prior to assigning the film with a Production Auditor.
Maintaining our database with all production information (our editors, production designers, line producers we like) to keep it as current as possible.
Qualifications
Minimum of 10+ years experience budgeting, scheduling and maintaining film projects
Prior set experience and background of working directly with creative teams and film directors in productions
Experience working in the low budget genre space - horror, thriller, action, sci-fi, etc. highly preferred
Experience with identifying managing projects with vendor studios
Prefer experience managing a Studio, including fiscal planning, facilities management, business affairs, HR, contracts, etc.
Strong working knowledge of Google Docs and production software
Must be able to multitask and work effectively under changing priorities and daily time constraints
Excellent verbal and written skills
Bachelor's Degree in Film or Business required
