The Division of Hospital Medicine is hiring a professional writer to assist with scientific and grant writing support. With over 270 faculty physicians, non-faculty physicians, and advanced practice providers caring for patients in ten hospitals, our Division is the nation's largest academic hospital medicine program. Due to heavy clinical demands, our clinicians need additional resources to support their scholarly pursuits. Responsibilities of this role include writing, editing, preparing manuscripts and grant applications, conducting literature searches, and monitoring writing requests. The selected candidate is also expected to mentor faculty that are less experienced in writing and promote writing services within the Division.
Serves as a principal writer for communications produced by the Division of Hospital Medicine.
Writes and edits articles for publication and grant applications.
Writes and/or edits materials consistent with the business unit's strategic plan and business objectives.
Contributes content and helps serve the strategic communications needs of the business unit.
Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional experience in regional or national news media, higher education or a related environment.
Outstanding skills in writing, editing, interviewing, and oral presentation.
Must have the ability to organize, set priorities, and manage several projects at once with minimal supervision.
Must demonstrate the ability to write journalistically at a sophisticated level, including mastery of the English language and the possession of a well-developed news sense.
Bachelor of Science degree with relevant writing experience or Bachelor of Arts degree (Social Sciences, English, or Communications, preferred) with relevant scientific and/or medical knowledge and expertise.
Experience working with academic clinicians.
Knowledge of medical journals and variety of publication types.
Willing to provide examples of successful grant submissions and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Ability to demonstrate familiarity with the principles of research and to interpret and present clinical data and other complex information.
Experience with grant writing and editing.
Demonstrates independence with effective presentation, proofreading, interpersonal, and leadership skills and ensures a team-oriented approach.
Extensive knowledge of English grammar, familiarity with AMA style guide and EndNotes.
High level of proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and the Internet.
Willing to travel to Emory's campuses to meet with clinicians.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
