    The Office of Alumni Relations and Volunteer Engagement seeks a Communications Specialist to help fulfill its mission to better serve and engage Baruch College's network of approximately 170,000 alumni. Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations & Volunteer Engagement, this person will assist the team in writing alumni magazine articles, producing website copy, contributing content to social media, as well as creating and sending broadcast emails.

    This individual will assist in brainstorming content and writing a handful of articles for each issue of Baruch Alumni Magazine (released twice a year). These articles may include alumni profiles, campus news stories, and feature-length pieces. This individual will also assist in uploading completed pieces to the alumni magazine WordPress blog after each issue is finished. As part of the planning of each magazine, this individual will also help to lead the team's initial kick-off meeting, providing article ideas and suggestions.

    This position also will help to create and send broadcast emails, including the monthly Alumni eNews, as well as working alongside other team members (primarily our lead event planners) to create marketing emails with punchy copy to compel alumni to RSVP for events. On the Baruch alumni website, this individual will assist in updating copy as needed and may have to create basic visuals to use in emails or landing pages, as needed.

    This individual will also assist in posting content on Baruch's alumni social-media handles, primarily across Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).

    The person in this role will also assist in staffing certain events and programs hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations and Volunteer Engagement throughout the year, as needed.

    In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, duties for the Communications Specialist will include, but are not limited to:

    • Assist in the planning of each issue of Baruch Alumni Magazine , as well as write a handful of articles, including alumni profiles, campus news stories, and features.

    • Upload articles to the alumni magazine's WordPress blog at the completion of each issue.

    • Liaise with vendors, including freelance writers and print and design companies, as needed.

    • Produce broadcast emails, primarily the monthly Alumni eNews, as well as work with colleagues to send event invitation emails.

    • Update copy and help to maintain the office's website.

    • Assist the team with copy needs, including printed pamphlets, invitations, and flyers, as needed.

    • Contribute content to the Baruch Alumni social-media handles, primarily Instagram, Facebook, and X (formerly Twitter).

    • Take photos at Baruch alumni events and staff certain events, as needed.

    • Collaborate with fundraisers in the Office of College Advancement with copy needs, for example: profiling donors and assisting with social media posts around Giving Tuesday.

    • Input data in Raiser's Edge, particularly after interviewing and profiling alumni in the magazine.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to write articles (news, profiles, or otherwise)

    • Some experience with email marketing. Experience sending and creating broadcast emails a plus.

    • Basic knowledge of using a CMS a plus

    • Basic design skills, preferably experience using Canva

    • Basic photography skills a plus

    • Knowledge of Raiser's Edge a plus

    • Highly organized and detail oriented

    • Superior verbal and written communication skills

    • Quick learner and proactive problem solver

    • Availability to work some evenings to staff alumni events

    Organizes alumni relations activities under management direction.

    • Plans and implements volunteer management programs

    • Produces communication materials in various formats

    • Organizes alumni reunion events and other functions

    • Works collaboratively with other areas of the College to promote and maintain alumni participation in various initiatives such as student recruitment and career development

    • Tracks and analyzes data to assess outcomes of department events and activities

    • May supervise office operations and/or events budgets

    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    $52,267 - $62,411; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
